By Ian Copestick

In this life, there’s not much that I can control
But the most important is my soul
Let it be open, let it be giving
As my body withers and dies
Let  my soul keep living
Let love, not hatred be my guide
Let it grow to be beautiful inside
No, there’s no beauty on my face
Please let my heart be filled with grace
Let me forgive those who have brought me pain
Revenge just keeps me playing their games
Let me learn to turn the other cheek
And if this makes people think I’m weak
At least I’m not dragged down to their level
Breaking bread with the devil
No, let the light inside me shine
Illuminate my path through the dark times
Let me keep learning, let me keep growing
Finding out the things I should be knowing
Do my spirit can grow strong
Because this life doesn’t last very long
All too soon, we’re dead and gone
I want my soul to go on
So if there is anything after we die
My soul will soar, my soul will fly
